Before the calendar turns to December, more than 2,200 Texas workers will be added to the growing list of mass layoff casualties this year. From company offloads to shuttered facilities, September is proving to deal a heavy blow to the Texas workforce as the state struggles to bring its unemployment rate below the U.S. average.
The biggest hit to the market came from a company owned by Tenet Healthcare Corporation, a massive Dallas-based healthcare company. Amid the cut ties between Conifer Health Solutions and CommonSpirit Health, a Catholic healthcare system headquartered in Chicago, this parting of ways, “among other things,” led to restructuring and “technology initiatives” that are cutting more than 1,000 jobs.
The company said many of these jobs are remote, but employees are hired and work at the Texas office in Dallas. The employees’ last day will be November 2, according to a mass layoff letter drafted by Conifer Health Solutions’ leadership…
