DALLAS (KDAF) — Dallas-Fort Worth has recorded more nights at or above 75 degrees in 2026 than during any single full year in the mid-1990s baseline period. Higher nighttime temperatures across major Texas metropolitan areas are keeping air conditioners running long after sunset and driving up household cooling costs.
The trends were identified in an analysis by Payless Power, which examined National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration overnight temperature data across 12 Texas metros. The analysis compared 2026 data against a mid-1990s baseline to model how lingering heat impacts energy usage and household utility expenses.
