Not much has changed since S&D opened its doors in the little orange brick spot on McKinney Avenue, apart from the removal of the offending cheesecake (our 1981 review said it should be retitled “cheese and egg cake,” which doesn’t actually sound that bad). The restaurant’s biggest shift happened in 2023, when Herb sold it to local brothers Ryan, Sean and Beau Bellomy of Rex’s Seafood. The trio’s only change so far has been a tiny upstairs bar called Caché.
The DMN‘s Sarah Blaskovich has a lovely little interview with Herb today (Mary Kay passed away in May of this year) about S&D’s success. “I never even questioned it,” Kerb says.
