GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A monthslong data breach targeting the human resources arm of the Department of Defense may have exposed the personal information of up to four million department personnel, including U.S. service members, reports say.
In a letter dated Sept. 18, the Defense Manpower Data Center informed personnel of a breach of its information system spanning from October 2025 through July 16, 2026, when the leak was discovered.
During that time, “a small number of unauthorized users” accessed files containing unencrypted personally identifiable information, including Social Security numbers, names, birthdays, demographic and contact information, as well as military personnel information…
