Matt Tobin has been trying to bring his pizza concept to East Dallas for two years. The co-owner of East Dallas’ Goodfriend Package Store, an amazing sandwich shop and cafe, and Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House, plopped a pizza spot in Garland as part of a revitalization effort by the city back in 2024.
The new location will open at 8686 Ferguson Road, in the same retail center as Whistling Pig. A couple of years ago, Tobin and his business partner, Josh Yingling, noticed that one store in this strip mall had closed. But one slice of space wouldn’t be enough. They needed at least two. When the store next to it closed, they jumped on the chance.
“It’s a great area,” Tobin says about getting this location. “The people in the neighborhood are great, and we know a lot of them. Commercial real estate hasn’t really caught up with the residential market, yet. We like the idea of going into a spot and brightening it up.”…
