Attempted Apartment Break-In in Dallas Leads to Shooting, Suspect in Custody

Dallas, Texas— In the early hours of Sunday morning, a resident in Dallas thwarted an attempted break-in at their apartment by opening fire on the intruder. The incident unfolded at approximately 5 a.m. in the 9800 block of Walnut Street.

According to the Dallas Police Department, the intruder has been identified as 46-year-old Nickolaus Benitez. Mr. Benitez allegedly attempted to forcibly enter an apartment when the resident took action to defend their home, resulting in the suspect sustaining gunshot wounds.

Following the incident, emergency services were promptly summoned, and Nickolaus Benitez was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Subsequently, he was taken into police custody. Benitez now faces charges of burglary of a habitation with assault, as per law enforcement officials.

At this time, Dallas Police have not disclosed whether the resident who discharged the firearm will face any charges in connection with the incident. Fortunately, there were no additional injuries reported in this matter.
