With the 2024 NBA trade deadline in the rearview mirror, teams immediately pivoted to the buyout market in an effort to pick up some veterans who get let go by contending teams. One of the top names who was made available was Spencer Dinwiddie .
Dinwiddie was dealt from the Brooklyn Nets to the Toronto Raptors, where he got bought out. He then latched on with the Los Angeles Lakers , despite having a chance to reunite with the Dallas Mavericks . When asked about his decision, Dinwiddie had quite an explanation.

The Lakers and Mavs were the top two teams pursuing Dinwiddie, and it seemed like Dallas had the upper hand, considering how Dinwiddie played for them just last season. And beyond that, the Mavericks are currently higher up in the Western Conference standings than LA is.
Yet Dinwiddie quickly seemed to gravitate towards joining the Lakers, where he figures to become an essential piece of their rotation. Yet when he explained why he chose them over the Mavs, Dinwiddie left fans everywhere scratching their heads with what he said.
