ARLINGTON – Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy this week stated that he hates “false chatter,” an honest and admirable view until one takes a close look at his 3-5 team as it preps to play host to the Philadelphia Eagles today here at AT&T Stadium and wonders …
“What if ‘false chatter’ is all the Cowboys have going for them?”
Dallas is on a three-game skid, is growing accustomed to getting blown out at home, will be playing without surgery-bound team leader Dak Prescott, and is facing the realities of the downside of the “Blow It Up” plan.
There is nothing “crisp” or “focused” or “intense” about the way the Cowboys have performed. And now along come the 6-2 Eagles, who rarely win at Dallas but who now must be almost tasting the blood in the water.
Philly is a seven-point favorite here, and given all of the numbers that point in the Eagles direction that feels safe. A big one: The Cowboys give up 4.58 yards per carry and 150.3 total yards per game to running backs, while Saquon Barkely ranks No. 2 in the NFL in rushing yards (925), No. 2 in yards from scrimmage (1,071) and No. 3 in all-purpose TDs (eight).
