Dallas Animal Services is seeking homes for shelter pets over the next two weeks as part of its “Empty the Shelters” initiative.
The nationwide program, credited with helping more than 300,000 animals find homes, aims to provide a lifeline for shelter pets of all breeds and ages. Cathy Bissell, founder of the Bissell Pet Foundation, says the project is critical for tens of thousands of animals in desperate need.
DAS reports its dog population is at 133% capacity. The shelter hopes to reduce numbers to below 100% to facilitate long-delayed facility repairs. While improvements have begun in smaller areas, work on larger spaces cannot proceed until overcrowding is addressed.
