Overcrowded Dallas shelter calls for foster families after rescuing 84 cats in distress

Dallas, Texas – Dallas Animal Services (DAS) conducted a significant rescue operation last week, rescuing 84 cats and kittens from the overcrowded house of a local hoarder. Working with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Texas (SPCA), the operation highlighted the dire state of the animals and the overwhelmed homeowner, who voluntarily turned up the cats for their wellbeing and was too sick to be able to handle their care.

While the remaining kitties were housed by DAS, on December 19 the combined effort saw 30 of the rescued cats being sent to the SPCA for immediate treatment. Luckily, DAS had the capacity to accommodate the new newcomers, who came to the facility with other animals in need.

DAS spokesperson Marlo Clingman responded to the case stressing the complexity of animal hoarding.

“Hoarding cases are always heartbreaking, as they often start with a well-meaning person wanting to help animals. Unfortunately, just two intact cats or dogs can quickly and exponentially multiply. Thankfully, in this case we were able to get this person and the animals the help they needed” said Marlo Clingman with DAS to CBS Dallas-Fort Worth.
