Every year on the third Monday in January, the country observes and reflects on the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and contributions to the civil rights movement. MLK Day was first observed as a federal holiday in 1986 and is celebrated with events, volunteering, exhibits, panels and parades.
