Terrell man sentenced for online impersonation and solicitation of a minor

TERRELL, Texas – A Mesquite man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of online impersonation and online solicitation of a minor under 14. The investigation began in August 2022, according to the Terrell Police Department.The case originated when an organization used an online decoy profile to interact with a subject they believed to be Daniel Joiner, of Terrell. The group confronted Joiner at his business, Terrell Skateland, and livestreamed the encounter online. They later filed a formal complaint with the Terrell Police Department.The Criminal Investigations Division identified James Crow, of Mesquite, as the owner of the fraudulent online profile. Investigators discovered that Crow had created a fake persona using Joiner’s information to engage in illicit activities with minors. Arrest warrants were obtained, and Crow was arrested at his residence in Mesquite.In December 2024, Crow pled guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Daniel Joiner was found to have no involvement in the criminal activity and faced no charges, stated the Terrell Police Department.
