Mayor Eric L. Johnson awards grant to Dallas organization helping seniors in the community

Dallas, Texas – In a significant gesture of support for senior citizens in Dallas, Mayor Eric L. Johnson has awarded a $10,000 grant to The Senior Source, a nonprofit dedicated to assisting and advocating for older adults and caregivers. The grant was provided by New Jersey Community Capital (NJCC), a leading community development financial institution.

A Commitment to Economic Equity

The grant was awarded at the close of Black History Month, aligning with the commemoration’s focus on economic equity for divested populations. NJCC, which specializes in providing financial support to underserved communities, selected The Senior Source as a recipient due to its critical role in uplifting Dallas seniors.

Mayor Johnson emphasized the importance of the nonprofit’s work, stating, “The Senior Source is a deeply valued Dallas nonprofit that uplifts one of our most vulnerable communities. I am grateful to New Jersey Community Capital for this generous contribution and look forward to seeing it make a meaningful impact in empowering Dallas seniors.”

With Dallas having the largest senior workforce in the country, the needs of this growing population have become increasingly urgent. Since 2010, the number of residents aged 65 and older has grown five times faster than the rest of the city, making resources like The Senior Source essential for ensuring their financial stability, emotional well-being, and access to necessary services.

Funding to Support Vital Programs

The $10,000 grant will go toward expanding The Senior Source’s wide range of services, which include:

  • Advocacy for nursing home residents to ensure their rights and needs are met
  • Free technology classes to help seniors navigate modern digital tools
  • Guidance for family caregivers managing the challenges of elder care
  • Employment resources for older adults seeking meaningful job opportunities
  • Volunteer matching programs that allow seniors to engage with the community and contribute to causes that align with their passions

Stacey Malcolmson, President and CEO of The Senior Source, expressed deep appreciation for the funding, stating, “Knowing only three percent of all philanthropic giving goes towards organizations supporting older adults, every gift counts. That’s why we are grateful to Mayor Johnson for selecting The Senior Source for this generous $10,000 gift and recognizing that supporting seniors means uplifting Dallas.”

Decades of Service to the Senior Community

Since 1961, The Senior Source has been a cornerstone for older adults and caregivers in Dallas. As a trusted resource hub, the nonprofit provides financial guidance, long-term care advice, caregiver support, and volunteer opportunities to help seniors maintain independence and dignity…
