DALLAS — Beloved Dallas music scene fixture Chris Penn, who for decades has endeared himself to the local community as the cheerful co-owner of the East Dallas record store Good Records and the co-manager of the acclaimed Dallas bands Tripping Daisy and The Polyphonic Spree, has been paralyzed from the neck down following an accident at his record store earlier this week, according to a Facebook post uploaded on Thursday evening by his close friend and longtime collaborator Tim DeLaughter.
According to DeLaughter, who co-owns Good Records with Penn and fronts both of the bands Penn manages, Penn took a fall while hanging advertising decals on the front window of the Garland Road shop. In doing so, DeLaughter says, Penn landed directly on his back, severely aggravating spinal issues he’d been suffering from for years.
Last year, DeLaughter says, Penn had surgery to help alleviate some of the pain he’d been facing due to what doctors diagnosed as Ankylosing Spondylitis and Ossification of the Posterior Longitudinal Ligament — ailments that cause the structure that connects and stabilizes the bones of the spine to thicken and become less flexible, limiting the mobility of those dealing with it…
