Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently threatened legal action against the East Plano Islamic Center and Community Capital Partners LP for starting construction on the EPIC City development without permits. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality confirmed that neither the mosque nor the developer has submitted required applications or paperwork. The organizations must cease any construction activities within seven days to avoid enforcement of state laws.
Rep. John Cornyn wrote, “I am concerned that the Center, through its for-profit affiliated entity, is attempting to create an enclave that will discriminate on the basis of religion, and, further, is hiding this intent from the public.”
Community Capital Partners plans to develop a project that includes over 1,000 homes, a K-12 faith-based school, a mosque, and community facilities on 402 acres in Collin and Hunt counties.
