Summer is here, but no Heat Advisories…yet!

Welcome to summer, ladies and gentlemen. Unfortunately, the heat is expected to worsen before it improves. Fortunately, temperatures have been relatively mild thus far. A few fortunate individuals may experience late-day shower storms, particularly south of Interstate 20, from today through Wednesday.

A strong high-pressure system anchored over Tennessee and the Carolinas will be situated to our east this week, resulting in a southeasterly flow in the upper atmospheric levels. Several disturbances emanating from the Gulf will ignite the sea breeze front during the afternoon hours. Showers and storms will develop along the Texas coast in the early morning and move northwestward through the late afternoon, dissipating just south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area after sunset. Areas north of Interstate 20 are unlikely to receive any rainfall throughout this period.

Afternoon highs this week will reach the mid-90s, with heat index values approaching or slightly exceeding 100 degrees. Currently, no heat advisories are anticipated. The upper-level ridge of high pressure will gradually shift westward this weekend, potentially leading to increased temperatures into the upper 90s, with heat index values approaching 103 degrees. This remains below heat advisory criteria, and no precipitation is expected over the weekend…
