On Monday, June 30, the Dallas Police Department held a street dedication ceremony to honor fallen Officer Victor Leon Morris, Badge #212, at the intersection of St. Paul and Commerce Streets in downtown Dallas.
Officer Morris was killed in the line of duty on September 15, 1941, after confronting a suspect who had boarded a streetcar without paying. During the confrontation, the suspect pulled a knife, prompting Officer Morris to draw his service weapon. A struggle ensued, and Officer Morris dropped his firearm. The suspect retrieved the weapon and fatally shot the officer. Morris died while being transported to the hospital.
