A wedding. A baptism. Yearly Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. What do all of these have in common? For Randy Burks, every major event in his life for the past three decades has occurred at his restaurant: Randy’s Steakhouse.
For the past 32 years, he’s had a pretty simple routine. He gets up at 5 a.m. to start preparing for the evening. “I go get my own produce, I take inventories, I write menus. I write all the recipes,” Burks said. But his customer-facing workday starts at 5 p.m., which is when his steakhouse opens.
Burks bounced around the country before landing his first restaurant job at Del Frisco’s, where he quickly rose through the ranks: from a server, to a chef, to becoming the manager of the restaurant…
