A viral TikTok video has yanked a Dallas-area Honda dealership into the spotlight, and not on the most flattering terms. Honda Cars of Rockwall came under fire after the viral clip drew public attention to a stark contrast between the dealership’s repair quote for a 2023 Honda Odyssey airbag warning light issue and what it cost to fix the problem at an independent mechanic. The Odyssey’s owner, Jonathan Morsinkhoff, said he took the car to the dealership in the first place because he hoped insurance would cover the repair, or perhaps the problem fell under a recall. Instead, what he got, Morsinkhoff says, was a misdiagnosis by Honda Cars of Rockwall, followed by what he eventually realized was an inflated repair quote: $7,000. Realizing at the dealership that he’d exceeded the 36k-mile warranty limit, Morsinkhoff reverted to his mechanic, but not before paying Honda Cars of Rockwall a “diagnosis” fee of $200. The thing is, Morsinkhoff’s mechanic fixed the problem at the cost of just $125.
Dealership Defense vs. Mechanic’s Simplicity
Sharing his experience on TikTok, Morsinkhoff couldn’t hide his frustration with “dishonest people,” sparking intense debate over dealership practices, transparency, and consumer trust.
