A shooting in Dallas left three people dead, including the suspect, 53-year-old Lalit Pradhan. Pradhan was a former Bhutanese refugee who had migrated to the United States from Nepal through a resettlement program. The other victims were identified as Pradhan’s 37-year-old wife, Ranjana Shrestha, and their 3-year-old son, Pranish Pradhan.
The shooting occurred at approximately 2:10 a.m. in the 1900 block of Dudley Street, according to the Dallas Police Department. Preliminary investigations indicate that Pradhan shot his wife and son before turning the gun on himself. When officers arrived, they found Pradhan with an apparent gunshot wound and several lacerations. He was transported by Dallas Fire-Rescue to a hospital, where he later died. Ranjana Shrestha and Pranish Pradhan were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Hours before the incident, Pradhan posted a handwritten letter online detailing over a decade of severe physical and mental health struggles. In the letter, he described enduring “very, very severe burning, gripping, and stabbing pain” in his stomach since suffering from food poisoning in 2009.
