Dallas ISD enforces new cellphone ban policy

DALLAS — The Dallas Independent School District welcomed more than 140,000 students back to school on Tuesday. But as students walked to class, they noticed a new policy had been put in place. Teachers and staff are enforcing the state’s new cellphone ban.

“So we want to remind everyone that the law is requiring us, that we have absolutely none of those personal devices on our campuses,” said Dallas ISD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Elizalde.

The law Elizalde is talking about is House Bill 1481, which was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott this summer, and requires all Texas public and charter schools to prohibit personal communication devices during instructional hours…
