Dallas launches new plan to cool down overheated neighborhoods

Dallas is rolling out a fresh strategy to take the sting out of triple-digit summers.

City leaders have teamed up with the Smart Surfaces Coalition to fight the “urban heat island” effect, which makes some neighborhoods as much as 14 degrees hotter than others.

The fixes will be both high-tech and low-tech: installing reflective roofs and pavement, building rooftop gardens, and planting more greenery throughout the city…
