DALLAS — On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the Dallas Police Department honored the life, legacy, and sacrifice of Police Officer Leslie G. Lane, Jr., #2831, with the unveiling of a ceremonial street topper in the 4700 block of Live Oak Street.
Officer Lane was shot and killed in the line of duty while attempting to arrest a suspect in the same area. The suspect had abducted an off-duty female officer, who was able to escape, but the suspect stole her weapon and fled. He then abducted another woman before leading officers on a car chase. After crashing, the second woman escaped, but as officers attempted to arrest the suspect, he opened fire, fatally wounding Officer Lane.
