‘I need to leave now’ | Dallas Police officers eying exit in higher numbers, pension system says

DALLAS — A higher-than-usual number of Dallas police officers are inquiring about leaving the department in calls to the Dallas Police and Fire Pension System and in financial planning meetings hosted by the Dallas Police Association, leaders of both organizations say.

In a board meeting last week, DPFPS Executive Director Kelly Gottschalk said she has received “a lot” of phone calls from police department employees looking to retire.

“A lot more than normal,” Gottschalk said of the calls. “Something is going on over there. I’m not sure what it is, but we’re talking them off the ledge.”…
