Some Dallas residents are pushing back against H-E-B’s expansion plans

After H-E-B kicked off the year with the reveal that it had purchased a property in Dallas for the city’s first namesake store, the Texas grocer’s plans are moving full speed ahead.

The city plan commission approved H-E-B’s zoning request on Thursday as the grocer pushes to open a new store at the southeast corner of Hillcrest Road and LBJ Freeway. As part of its next steps, the request will need approval from the city council. But as H-E-B moves closer to building out its store in Texas’ third-largest city, some residents are dissenting.

A group called the Hillcrest Preservation Coalition has circulated a petition asking signees to “say no to big-box rezoning” at the site. In its appeal, the group says the new H-E-B “threatens the long-term stability and character of our neighborhood.”…
