Dallas council delays $8.7M jail payment, demands more transparency

DALLAS, Texas — The Dallas City Council has delayed an $8.7 million payment to the Dallas County Jail, sending the contract back to its public safety committee for further review amid questions about transparency and performance.

The contract would cover processing and maintaining city prisoners at the Lew Sterrett Criminal Justice Center from October 2025 through September 2026, according to the council agenda. The agreement with the county dates back to 1978.
