Family of teen trampled by Dallas police horse at State Fair of Texas reach settlement in lawsuit

DALLAS — The family of a teenager who was trampled by a Dallas police horse during the 2024 State Fair of Texas has reached a settlement after suing the city of Dallas, the State Fair of Texas, Fair Park First and Oak View Group.

According to the lawsuit, the teen’s mother, Esther Macharia, sought more than $1 million in damages for pain and suffering, alleging negligence by the defendants.

The incident, which occurred on Oct. 8, 2024, allegedly happened when a mounted Dallas police officer lost control of his horse while holding a beverage in one hand as he rode through a crowd, leading to the teen being trampled…
