One week later, apartment residents still displaced after Downtown Dallas high-rise flood

It’s been one week since a burst water pipe forced hundreds of residents out of the historic Mercantile Building in downtown Dallas, and many are still waiting for answers.

The rupture happened last Thursday on the 20th floor of the building at 1800 Main Street, which houses Mercantile Place on Main apartments. According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, the water reached an electrical room on the 11th floor, causing smoke damage and knocking out power to the building.

The flooding also caused significant water damage to several floors below, affecting many of the 175 occupied apartments inside. Electricity and running water remain out, and property management has not yet announced a timeline for reopening…
