Man killed after being struck by vehicle driven by Garland police officer, officials say

GARLAND, Texas — A man was killed in a crash involving a Garland police officer on Friday morning, the department has confirmed.

The Garland Police Department said one of its officers had “just left the police station” and was traveling east on the 1500 block of W. State Street at around 6:30 a.m. on Friday when their automobile struck a truck that was stopped in the eastbound lanes of the roadway near the intersection of McKinley Street.

According to police, the truck was “blocking the entire eastbound lane of traffic” and its lights were off at the time of the collision. The police department’s press release on the incident also notes that a man, who “was standing at the front of the vehicle in the middle of the road”, was struck in the collision…
