Leaders in Highland Park and Farmers Branch have approved special elections for May 2026 that will let residents decide whether to remain members of Dallas Area Rapid Transit.
Both city councils voted this week to move forward with the measures, citing long-standing concerns over the cost of membership and the level of service provided by the regional transit agency. Each city contributes a portion of its sales tax revenue to DART, but officials argue that limited routes and infrequent service have left their communities underrepresented.
