San Antonio ranks on the lower end of motor-vehicle fatality and serious-injury rates compared to Texas’s largest cities, according to a new city of Dallas report analyzing roadway dangers statewide.
San Antonio starts near the bottom of fatal-crash rates
San Antonio recorded roughly 11 motor-vehicle deaths per 100,000 residents, placing it slightly below Austin, Houston, Fort Worth and El Paso. Those cities cluster between 12 and 13 fatalities per 100,000 residents.
Dallas, however, stands apart with the highest fatality rate among the state’s major cities — about 15 deaths per 100,000 residents.
Lower end for serious-injury and combined severe-crash numbers
San Antonio also sits in the lower tier for severe injuries, posting about 40 serious injuries per 100,000 residents, similar to El Paso and well below Houston and Fort Worth.
When serious injuries and deaths are combined, the city’s rate rises to roughly 55 per 100,000 residents, again placing San Antonio on the safer half of the state’s large metros…
