North Texas Teen Killed During Alleged Armed Robbery; Police Say Shooting Was Self-Defense

CARROLLTON, Texas — A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed Monday night during what police say was an attempted armed robbery in Carrollton, after a 20-year-old man fired in self-defense.

According to a news release from the Carrollton Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after 7 p.m. to the 2200 block of Heads Lane following a report of a weapon-related incident. A short time later, a woman contacted authorities to report that her teenage son had been shot.

The boy, whose name has not been released, was transported to Carrollton Regional Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.

Police say robbery was planned in advance

Investigators determined that the 16-year-old victim traveled to Carrollton with four other juveniles — John Avila, 17; Markellin Soto, 17; and two 15-year-old girls — to meet Adan Sandoval, 20.
