PLANO, Texas — Nicholas Carney, a 65-year-old from Ardmore, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to life in prison for the 1991 kidnapping and sexual assault of an eight-year-old child in Plano, Texas. The verdict was delivered by a Collin County jury, according to a press release from Collin County Criminal District Attorney Greg Willis’s office.
On August 15, 1991, the child was abducted by a stranger while walking to a community pool and was sexually assaulted before being released 20 miles from her home. DNA evidence collected at the time was later linked to an unsolved 1999 sexual assault case in Dallas, where a nine-year-old child was similarly attacked.
