Duck Inn Again to enjoy homemade food and hospitality

The hush puppies recipe is a family secret, but folks in Lake Dallas know they’re the best in town. The owners of Duck Inn Again, Susan Howard and Todd Matthes, are bringing back those famous hush puppies, U.S. farm-raised catfish and other homemade foods that prompt old memories for customers who ate at the restaurant’s namesake for years before it closed.

Duck Inn Again is Howard’s legacy. Her family started the first Duck Inn when they moved from Dallas to Lake Dallas and opened the restaurant in 1945 in front of their home. It closed in 1998, and she finds closure now in opening up a new chapter.

“We love meeting people who love the food and the restaurant,“ said Howard.

“It’s a labor of love for both of us,” added Matthes, whose experience in the restaurant world includes a number of years working for Dave and Buster’s. The couple’s combined experience in the industry has prepared them for their new venture.

Duck Inn and Waddle Out

A T-shirt worn by employees (also available for customers to purchase) sums up what the owners want to see: families, friends and visitors who “Duck Inn and Waddle Out.” They want guests to enjoy the fresh catfish (from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama) and hush puppies with butter (try dipping them in tartar sauce, too!)…
