Family wants answers after 55-year-old dies following ‘physical confrontation’ with Mesquite police officer

MESQUITE, Texas — The children of a 55-year-old man who died after a “brief physical confrontation” with a Mesquite police officer said body camera footage showed the officer tackling their father to the ground and punching him more than a dozen times after pulling him over in connection with a shoplifting call.

Willie Rose’s family said Dallas police, which is investigating the Dec. 29 death, showed them the body camera footage. A Mesquite police spokesperson said the video will be released Friday afternoon.

“It was hard to watch,” said Chasity Rose, Willie Rose’s daughter. “He killed him.”…
