North Texas man wants to know why H-E-B seemingly won’t touch his neighborhood

It’s been a few years since San Antonio-based grocery giant H-E-B finally expanded into the North Texas region. Since first launching in North Texas with a Frisco location in 2022, the chain has opened several more in the surrounding areas, but one man is asking why there aren’t any within the city of Dallas itself.

Fredrick Terry has been on a campaign since 2023 to solve the food desert, which he says has been a constant problem in the 59-year-old’s neighborhood of Oak Cliff. An H-E-B would change things — but Terry told MySA nobody has been able to tell him exactly why the chain hasn’t made its way into Dallas’ urban core despite owning multiple tracts of land, like the empty lot near his house.

“You’re either in a grocery business, or you’re land speculators,” Terry said. “And here they appear to be land speculators.”…
