Students across the Dallas Independent School District are expected to stage walkouts Tuesday as part of an “ICE Out of Dallas” protest organized by students in response to federal immigration enforcement efforts.
The demonstrations are student-led and not sponsored by the district, which has reminded families that leaving class will result in unexcused absences and possible disciplinary action under district policy.
State and local officials have been watching similar walkouts across North Texas this week, including protests at high schools in Tarrant, Collin and Kaufman counties, as students carry signs and march in public spaces to express concern over U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s actions.
