Mexican national sentenced to federal prison for illegal reentry

DALLAS, Texas — A Mexican national with a history of violent offenses has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States, according to the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas.

Pedro Garcia Lopez, a 45-year-old, was indicted in June 2025 and pled guilty in September 2025 to the charge of illegal reentry after being deported by immigration authorities in 2008. United States District Judge Sam Lindsay handed down the sentence on February 2, 2026.

Evidence presented during sentencing revealed Garcia Lopez’s criminal history, which began with a burglary conviction in 2008. He later committed two violent assaults, resulting in state convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2018 and 2025, each carrying a sentence of three years’ imprisonment…
