El Salvador citizen sentenced to 45 years for child exploitation in Texas

DALLAS, Texas — An El Salvador citizen illegally residing in the United States has been sentenced to 45 years in federal prison for child exploitation involving a 12-year-old boy, according to the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas.

Julio Chavez, who was convicted of one count of production of child sex abuse material and one count of receipt of child sex abuse material in August 2025, received his sentence of 540 months in federal prison on February 11, 2026, from United States District Judge Brantley Starr. “The defendant exploited a young boy’s innocence and vulnerability,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould. “I am glad the district court judge sentenced the defendant to over 40 years in federal prison for his heinous crimes.”

FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock emphasized the significance of the sentence, stating, “The significant sentence imposed on the defendant sends a clear message that crimes against children will not be tolerated.”…
