$9.9 million liquid meth bust in Dallas gave glimpse into El Mencho-led cartel operations

DALLAS — The most powerful cartel leader in Mexico was killed by the Mexican military on Sunday, triggering cartel violence in and around the Puerto Vallarta region.

Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho,” led the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and was considered one of the most wanted fugitives in the world by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The 59-year-old had ties to organized crime that went back more than 30 years, according to Associated Press reporting, and founded the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, commonly referred to by authorities as CJNG, in 2009.
