After 78 years, the family-owned furniture store is closing its doors. According to an email sharing the news, “the decision follows sustained financial and market challenges.” In 2022, a $155 million redevelopment of the Dallas company’s original Knox Street store was unveiled as Weir’s Plaza, a mixed-use space with Weir’s anchoring the building’s first two floors. (D Magazine confirmed, the development will still be called Weir’s Plaza post-closure.) In 2024, Dirk Smith took over as CEO after the retirement of founder J. Ray Weir’s grandson Mark Moore, the last family member to serves as CEO.
