Forney woman pleads guilty to husband’s murder, sentenced to 45 years; romantically involved co-worker sentenced to life

KAUFMAN, Texas — Mayra Diosdado Lara, a 41-year-old resident of Forney, has pled guilty to the murder of her husband, Gabriel Diosdado Arteaga, and has been sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Lara was involved in a conspiracy with 26-year-old Deaundre Bernard Walker, who was found guilty of murder by a Kaufman County jury in November 2025 and sentenced to life in prison, according to a press release from the Kaufman County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. During Walker’s trial, Lara testified that she and Walker, who were coworkers and romantically involved, planned the murder after she expressed a desire for her husband “to disappear.”

Evidence showed that Walker, a convicted felon, obtained a firearm in Houston, which was used as the murder weapon. The night before the murder, Lara and Walker test-fired the weapon in a park and discussed the details of the plan, including the victim’s routine and security camera locations…
