2 shot in Garland park after meet-up for sale of “illicit material,” says authorities

GARLAND, Texas — Two people were shot, and one is currently in critical condition after an afternoon shooting in a park located in the area of Garland High School, authorities tell WFAA.

Another person reportedly involved in this incident has since been arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, according to information released Thursday night by the Garland Police Department. The arrested suspect has been identified as Edwin Vega, a 17-year-old. A total of four individuals were said to have been involved in this incident, all four ranging between the ages of 15 to 17, GPD says.

Garland police initially sent alert via its social media channels just before 4:30 p.m., warning people to avoid Central Park near the area of Avenue F and Garland Avenue (SH 78). Police arrived at the area and found two people believed to be involved in the incident, one of whom was suffering from a gunshot wound. While officers were at the park, a 911 call was made that stated another person in the area was shot.
