A new multi-million-dollar hotel could rise along the shores of a North Texas lake, potentially breathing new life into a massive waterfront development that city officials recently criticized for stalling.
Plans were recently submitted for a $12 million Hilton-branded hotel at the Sapphire Bay development in Rowlett, about 20 miles northeast of Dallas, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Transportation (TDLR). While details submitted to the TDLR are subject to change, construction could break ground at the Lake Ray Hubbard site in November, lasting through June 2028.
The proposed Tempo Hotel by Hilton would span six stories and roughly 72,000 square feet, according to the filing. The project is described as a new light metal gauge hotel built on piers with a full sprinkler system.
The property would be located near the southwest corner of Marina Vista and East Access Drive as part of a long-planned mixed-use development known as Sapphire Bay. Hilton and Sapphire Bay did not immediately respond to Chron’s request for comment by the time of publication.
Developers have pitched the Sapphire Bay project as a waterfront destination featuring retail, apartments, hotels, a surf park, lazy river, beer garden, conference center, concert venue and event lawn, according to site plans found on the company’s website.
