Firefighters rescue kayaker from river near Taylorsville Dam

Firefighters rescued a kayaker from the Great Miami River near the Taylorsville Dam on Saturday.

Vandalia, Butler Township, and Huber Heights fire crews responded to reports of a boater in distress in the area of the Taylorsville Dam just before 7 p.m., according to Vandalia Division of Fire Chief Chad Follick.

Firefighters arrived on the south side of the dam and found that a kayaker had fallen out of his boat and was clinging to it in the middle of a small current in the river.

The kayaker didn’t have a life vest, but was treading water…
