Montgomery County names new Public Defender Director

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ohio (WKEF) — The Montgomery County Public Defender Commission has appointed the county’s next Public Defender Director.

Timothy Young will officially assume the role on August 1, 2026, bringing more than 30 years of experience in public defense.

A graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law, Young most recently serves as Ohio State Public Defender from 2008 to 2025. During that time, he oversaw statewide public defense operations and helped lead several legal reforms, including:

  • Changes to criminal case discovery practices
  • Self-defense laws
  • Attorney compensation
  • Creation of Ohio’s Wrongful Conviction Project
