One week after HBO’s John Oliver attempted to trigger a lawsuit from a certain beaver-branded gas station and Buc-ee’s has indeed filed a lawsuit, but not against the Last Week Tonight host. Instead, Buc-ee’s is suing a tiny convenience store in the town of Beavercreek, Ohio, claiming trademark infringement.
The business in question is Beaver’s Mini Mart, which features a smiling cartoon beaver with red-text signage. Buc-ee’s is claiming that the smiling cartoon beaver and red text constitute a violation of its trademark and will “cause confusion” among customers “likely to perceive a connection or association” between the businesses, according to WHIO TV 7.
This is far from the first time Buc-ee’s has sued a company for having a logo that is even slightly similar. Missouri’s Barc-ee’s, Houston’s Buky’s, Dallas’ Super Fuels, Georgia’s Teddy’s, and South Carolina’s Born United have all been hit with lawsuits. This isn’t even the first time an Ohio brand has been sued, as Buc-ee’s previously sued Ohio-based gas station chain Mickey’s over their similar mascots. That case remains pending…
