Man found guilty of burglary, assault after losing control of vehicle and hitting house

BATH TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) — A Fairborn man is facing two decades in prison after a Greene County jury found him guilty Monday of burglary and assault after losing control of his vehicle last year.

John T. Schmid 38, was found guilty of aggravated burglary, felonious assault, two misdemeanor assault charges and attempted trespass in a habitation, according to a release from the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office.

The court has not yet scheduled his sentencing hearing. Schmid faces 20 1/2 years in prison.

After exiting his vehicle before it burst into flames, Schmid attempted to break in to two residences, succeeding with the second.

Schmid entered the home of an elderly couple and proceeded to assault the pair, causing serious damage to the husband.
