Homicide suspect fires shots at officers before being arrested in Fairborn

One person is in custody after firing shots at officers in Fairborn Wednesday afternoon.

Crime scene tape and flashing lights surrounded apartment complexes in the 400 block of West Funderburg Road.

Just before 5 p.m., Fairborn police found out from Columbus police that Breyon Bryant, a homicide suspect, was on that block.

“He was outside in the parking lot from the residence nearby and when they confronted him, the Faiborn officers confronted him, he opened fire on the officers,” Sgt. Nathan Penrod with Fairborn police said.

Penrod said that a Fairborn sergeant then returned fire.

That’s what some of the neighbors heard.

“The dog let me know something was happening. We heard him. We heard gunshots, I’m guessing somewhere between 8:00 and 9:00,” Helen Anderson said.

Police said Bryant eventually surrendered and no one was hurt.

Fairborn investigators said its department will look into criminal investigation including the sergeant’s action.
