800 signatures on Beavercreek petition to prevent proposed truck stop

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Some Beavercreek residents are trying to turn their opposition to a proposed truck stop into action.

The residents near the intersection of U.S. 35 and Factory Road have started a petition to officially oppose the construction of a RaceTrac truck stop. They are unhappy about how it could negatively impact their property values, quality of life and safety of nearby neighborhoods.

2NEWS spoke with Beavercreek resident Susan Marticello about her opposition to the proposal.

Marticello said that the number one reason is that “it’s a bad intersection, 35. In fact, and Factory Road is very bad for cars and everyone who’s going through it. And people in the neighborhood sometimes avoid it. And if you add semi-trucks, that’s just going to make it even worse.”

Some of her neighbors agree; so far, 800 signatures are on the petition.

The Georgia-based RaceTrac announced its desire to expand into Ohio early last year, and a location in Beavercreek was proposed.
